A series of fortunate events brought us to New Mexico.
During the summer of 2006, as the housing market was starting to seriously crack around the foundations (so to speak), we began to think about moving out of our home state of California.
My husband was an accomplished carpenter and had been installing cabinets and stairs in new homes for years. But the work had been drying up as the residential building projects began to stall, and tract homes were going unfinished in the California Inland Empire. Construction jobs were few and far between.
Happily, we had purchased some land in the mountains of New Mexico a few years before – with the idea of having a camping spot in the Land Of Enchantment.
We were fortunate to be able to sell our California home and purchase the materials for building a log home in the mountains of New Mexico. We were able to do much of the work ourselves, drawing from my husband’s extensive knowledge of home-building due to his many years in the construction industry.
This is the story of our log home, in pictures mostly, with a few explanatory comments by me. The house is 2300 square feet (including the loft), a great room, kitchen and entryway, 3 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, an office, a laundry room, and front and back porches.
